THE WOODLAND CENTRE – SKUTTERSKELFE, STOKESLEY

Client – The Noble Charitable Trust

This new development was built on behalf of The Noble Charitable Trust and to be used by The Breckenbrough School. Known as “The Woodland Centre” the facility is used as an outdoor activity centre for the Breckenbrough school students

Situated in a leafy wooded area not far off the main road the building provides a secluded space for the students to enjoy both inside and outside activities.

The building provides a great combination of both modern and traditional construction methods. A steel frame on concrete foundations provides the structure for an envelope which combines both contemporary and traditional materials.

Siting on a concrete and brick plinth the external envelope is constructed with a combination of metal SFS, insulation and timber cladded rainscreen. Topped with a mono pitched standing seem roof and aluminium curtain walling, windows and doors.

Internally the facility provides a a large open teaching area which can be sub-divided by two moveable walls, kitchen, toilets including shower and changing areas and an administration/management office space.

The upper floor was constructed to shell status and will be subject to a further phase to fit-out and provide overnight accommodation for both staff and students.
