Following a fantastic summer season in 2018, fundraising events and the successful securing of grants moneys, the refurbishment of the pool tank, pool surround and perimeter fencing was carried out during the closed season for the pool’s Charity owners. The winter months on top of the North Yorkshire Moors may not be the ideal time to carry out external tiling works but it was imperative that this work was carried out outside the summer season and gave the facility it’s first major overhaul in it’s fifty year history.
The works comprised the complete stripping out of the pool shell and surrounding concrete walkway. A temporary “tent” was erected over the pool to allow the space to be heated and kept above the constant 5 degrees Celsius required for the rendering and tiling activities inside the pool shell. A new concrete slab was cast around the pool’s perimeter which was finished off with a resin bound rubber surface and perimeter channel drain. The works were completed in May 2019 to enable opening for the summer season.
Being one of only four public Lidos in North Yorkshire the owners of Helmsley Open Air Pool, who are a registered charity, are planning further phase of works to refurbish, or even renew the changing facilities. Fundraising is well underway and all donations for this phase gratefully accepted, for further details or to donate please visit:
