CATTERICK RACECOURSE OPENS TWO NEW PUBLIC BARS

Moody Construction Ltd have recently completed two schemes to provide new public bars at Catterick Racecourse.

THE LONGSHOTS BAR: A very much under used and outdated bar and betting facility was refurbished and extended to provide a much needed and improved space at the racecourse. Given it’s location within the enclosure, this bar caters specifically to racegoers focused on betting, offering them convenient access to both a betting shop and the on-course external bookmakers.

The refurbishment works included stripping back the bar to its structural elements, and creating a feel inspired by an industrial feel. The centrepiece of the facility being a long, fixed TV wall, which provides “the punters” with access to a all of the activity going on around the racecourse, at other meetings and also to sports broadcasts.

The re-organisation of the space doubled its capacity compared to the previous layout. This increased capacity, combined with the updated facilities, has made the new Longshots Bar a popular hub for betting and socializing and has significantly improved the experience for betting-focused visitors.

THE HORSESHOE CAFE AND BAR: This scheme comprised the redevelopment, refurbishment, and extension of the former Paddock and Lawn Pavilion Bar. The building which is centrally located adjacent to the parade ring and weighing room provides a vibrant new facility for racegoers.

Re-branded “The Horseshoe Cafe and Bar” the design makes extensive use of redwood timber, a material chosen for its natural aesthetics and to reflect the design of the adjacent Owners and Trainers facility. Internally the existing beams were retained and enhanced to provide a warm and rich colour, creating a cosy yet contemporary feel. The curtain walling helps to provide a light filled open plan feel to the bar and gives good vision to the parade ring and external courtyard.

Scott Wardman, Head of Construction at Moody Construction Ltd said: “We are delighted to have won these two schemes and to continue our good working relationship with the racecourse and their design teams. The new bars will provide much improved facilities for the visitors to the racecourse.
