RURAL HOUSING REFURBISHMENT SCHEME HANDED OVER

Work has been completed on the refurbishment of three almshouses and former school masters house to provide much needed local residential accommodation. The project to refurbish and extend the buildings to form a new studio bedsit, a one bed, a two bed and four bedroomed dwellings was successfully handover to a delighted Client and residents in February 2022.

In a partnership between local charity The Matthew Robinson Trust and Broadacres Housing Association the almshouses built in 1680, along with a former schoolmasters’ house and school room, were remodelled and extended to into new, modern homes to provide much needed additional homes in the beautiful rural village of Burneston near Ripon.

The scheme was completed along side the design coarchitect is P+HS Architects, Identity Consult (employers’ agents) and Fairhurst (consulting and structural engineers) are also providing support.

The two existing Almshouses and old school room, which are Grade 2* listed, had been empty and vacant for some time. The buildings have under gone a full internal, external and sympathetic refurbishment to provide modern living accommodation whilst understanding the requirements of it’s listed status.

In addition, the former schoolmasters’ house was extended from an existing two-bedroom property into a four-bedroom family home.

The properties have the benefit of new high temperature air source heat pumps together with upgraded insulations properties to provide new dwellings which will be economical to heat.

The project has provided a sympathetic and sustainable restoration to these beautiful buildings and has provided four lovely new homes in the village.”
